The Seattle Supersonics were born in Seattle, the home of Boeing, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, and when the team was founded in 1967, Boeing was developing and building supersonic airliners, and the name "Supersonics" was chosen for the basketball team created with Boeing's help. The Supersonics moved their home to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the team was renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder.
